Best JDM Topwater Lures: What's Catching Bass on the Surface in Japan

Last updated: October 2026  ·  By Bass-Dash

This is not a list of the topwater baits Japanese brands are pushing this season. It is the surface baits that show up in real 2026 catch reports from Japanese lakes — tournament results, rental-boat logs and angler submissions — with the lake, the fish and the timing for each. Every entry below was checked against the original report. Older records we could no longer verify were left out, so the list is short, but every fish on it happened.

Insect baits at Lake Nojiri

Drown Cicada, Orikane Mushi, Fujin Spider

Lake Nojiri · July 30 and August 9, 2026

Nojiri's summer "bug pattern" is its own thing. On July 30 the hit list was led by the Fujin Spider, Orikane Mushi and Drown Cicada, with mornings the best window and one angler landing seven fish over 40 cm. On August 9, with holiday pressure high, the insect baits still drew strikes and the fish that did commit were big, including 50-ups.
