JDM Baitcasters Under $250: What Actually Sold on eBay (Fall 2026)

Updated November 2, 2026 · From a Japan-based seller who tracks eBay sales of used Shimano and Daiwa reels every week

You don't need a $400 flagship to fish a Japanese baitcaster. Plenty of used JDM reels still change hands for well under $250. The question is which ones actually sell, and at what price. We pulled 90 days of finished eBay sales to US buyers (August to October 2026) for the reels we track, and kept only the ones whose typical sale price lands under $250.

How to read the table
  • Typical price is the median of finished sales of $80 or more over 90 days, with parts, spools and handles removed. Shipping is not included.
  • Sold in 90 days is how many sold. More sales means more choice for you, and a fairer price.
  • For the four older models, we kept only used units. For the newer families, the median can include a few new-in-box reels, so treat it as an upper guide for used.

Which ones are the best buys?

For the most choice: the 16 Metanium MGL (48 sold), Bantam MGL (42) and Zillion SV TW (49) sell steadily, so you can wait for a clean one at a fair price instead of taking the first listing you see.

For a classic look on a budget: the Calcutta 200XT and the 00 Calcutta Conquest 200 are round-body reels from the 1990s and early 2000s. Fewer sell, so condition varies a lot. Ask for a winding video before you pay.

For a DC brake under $250: the 21 Scorpion DC and the SLX DC XT are the two Digital Control reels that regularly sell below that line.

For the lowest price: the older Scorpion XT 1000/1500 sells for around $114 used. These are older reels, so a smooth winding check matters more than cosmetics.

Two of the cheapest reels on the list, checked by hand before shipping from Japan:

▶ 40-sec video
Shimano 10 Scorpion XT 1000: side cover off and a winding check.
▶ 36-sec video
Shimano 09 Scorpion XT 1500: frame code, 4.5 kg max drag and a winding check.
