Best Sellers: What America Buys vs What America Hunts

Two rankings, two completely different markets. On the left, what moves off the shelf on Amazon US. On the right, what US anglers pay a premium to import from Japan.

Amazon ranks updated 2026-09-03  ·  eBay 30-day sales as of 2026-10-02

Only 2 of the top 100 Amazon sellers are Japanese brands. Amazon's fishing charts belong to US value brands — KastKing, Zebco, Berkley, Truscend. Japanese tackle barely registers there, because Shimano and Daiwa's domestic lineup isn't sold on Amazon US at all. It moves on eBay instead, at three to five times the price. That gap is the whole reason this site exists.

Amazon US — weekly best sellers

Amazon does not publish unit sales, but its best-seller charts are ranked by actual sales volume and refresh hourly. We snapshot them weekly, so the arrows below show how far each product moved since last week.

eBay — Japanese reels US anglers actually import (last 30 days)

These are completed sales, not listings. The headline number is the last 30 days — that is what moves week to week, and the arrows show the change since our previous check. The greyed line underneath is the trailing twelve months for context. Spools, handles and spare parts are filtered out (items under $80 excluded), so these are reels.

How to read the two lists

Amazon is where you buy tackle. eBay is where you buy Japanese tackle. If a reel appears on Amazon's chart it is almost certainly a global-market model built to a price. The Shimano Scorpion, Metanium and Calcutta Conquest you see on the eBay list are JDM-only — different gearing, different brakes, different tolerances, and never officially imported.

That is also why the price bands look so far apart. A top-ten Amazon reel typically sits under $60. A mid-pack JDM reel on eBay clears $200 used. Buyers on the second list are not looking for a bargain; they are looking for something they cannot otherwise get.

If you are new to this, start with the JDM baitcaster buying guide — it decodes the model names and explains what to check before buying used.
