📝 Editor's Take Five reports, forty-seven fish, and a 21.7-inch best - the Flip Gill has the highest fish-per-report rate of anything in our data, and it earns that number in one place. All five reports come from Lake Mishima, a steep, timber-lined Chiba reservoir where bluegill are the primary forage. Three of the five landed in very shallow water under three feet, the other two in three to ten. Average water temperature was 72F, and the season split runs early summer and spawn. Anglers flip it into flooded timber and let it fall on a tight line - the pattern breakdown reads heavy cover and shallow cruisers, not open-water search. If you fish a lake where bass eat panfish around wood, this is the shape they expect. Japanese anglers pair it with a 7'0"-7'6" heavy rod, a high-gear baitcaster and 14-16lb fluorocarbon, which tells you it is a close-quarters bait meant to be pulled out of cover, not finessed in open water. Note the sample is small and single-lake: the catch rate is real, but it is one lake's answer, not a national one.
