📝 Editor's Take Six reports, nine fish, an 18.1-inch best - a modest record, until you look at where the bites came from. Four of the six were in water under three feet, and the other two in three to ten. Average water temp was 67F. Every single report is spring or early summer: two at spawn, two post-spawn, one early summer, one midsummer. This is not a search bait being burned over deep structure. It is a shallow-water spinnerbait, run where you can see the cover. The two best days came back-to-back at Lake Sagami in May at 63F - five fish one day, then a 46cm the next, both in the shallowest water on the lake. It also produced at Katakura, Kawaguchi and Kasumigaura, so the pattern is not one lake's quirk. Japanese anglers throw it on a 6'6"-6'10" medium with 12-14lb fluorocarbon and a normal-gear baitcaster - slower than most US spinnerbait setups, which is the point.
